HANDY HINTS FOR USING YOUR ART SUPPLIES!

HANDY HINTS FOR USING YOUR ART SUPPLIES!

Fun and easy ideas for little and big makers.

Here are some of my favourite ideas and ways to use all the fun new supplies you have. There is no right or wrong when it comes to art for kids. It’s all about experimenting and having fun! Don’t over think it, sometimes it can be as easy as a different coloured or shaped paper and oil pastels.

Framed picture: Use masking or washi tape to create a frame around your little one’s masterpiece. Let them go to town painting or drawing on their paper and then once done let them peel back the paper. Viola framed picture ready for hanging!

Watercolour paper with tape frame, watercolour paints, oil pastels,  watercolour picture, oil pastels, drawing of flowers and dashes

Watercolour and oil pastels have a love hate relationship. They look so good used together, but the oil pastels resist the watercolour going over them and say stay away, you can’t go over me! Making it a funny chat as little hands paint.

Collage is also another fun and creative way to keep little hands busy and the choices are endless. Stickers on paintings, using different cut out shapes to stick to paper, painting over stickers and peeling them off, using washi tape to make shapes and then painting the sections and removing the tape once dry to see what’s left behind, cutting up little creations and sticking together to make a new piece of art.

Printmaking is sure to make your little artist squeal with excitement when they peel back the paper and see what colours and patterns are made. You don’t even need anything special. You can use the back of a baking tray to let your little creator paint and use their little hands to draw pictures in the paint and then print it onto paper.

All these ideas will keep little hands busy and happy for hours! Enjoy all the smiles and watch the happiness grow as your little one’s artwork is put on display for all to see on the fridge or bedroom wall.

I hope you love these ideas as much as my family does!
